Cards

Two quick cards to share with you today. 

The Mother's Day card was inspired by the May 2012 issue of CardMaker magazine.  I loved the simply stitched alphabet that had a DIY, but I was too lazy, so I just search online for stitched fonts and I found this really cute blanket stitch font, but I can't remember which site I downloaded it from since I visited so many.

Supplies:

Paper:  Kraft Cardstock (Papertrey Ink), Patterned paper all from My Mind's Eye Howdy Doody except sheet music print which is from My Mind's Eye Follow your Heart.

Stamps:  Hero Arts Printer Type

Inks: Copics B000 and B13

Tools:  Stampin' Up! flower punches and tiny circle, Papertrey Ink flower dies and Limitless Layers circle dies. 

Embellishments:  Button, pins and lace from stash.


This next card is another card inspired by Mish.  I think I have found a new favorite paper!

Supplies:

Paper:  Rustic Cream Cardstock (Papertrey Ink), Howdy Doody (My Mind's Eye), plain notebook paper.

Stamps:  Take Note and Mat Stack 3 for sentiment (Papertrey Ink)

Inks:  Juniper (CTMH)  The mist spray I mixed to get a color match and I used so many blues and greens I can't even remember them all.  Let's just say this is a one of a kind color because I probably will never be able to create it again.

Tools:  Butterfly punch, circle punches (Stampin' Up!), scallop border die (Papertrey Ink), Tim Holtz tiny stapler

Embellishments:  Vintage button (Papertrey Ink), baker's twine from stash.

A Card and some Storage Space

A pretty little spring card that I CASE'd from Michelle Wooderson.  I loved the layout, so I used it to make my own version.

Supplies:

Paper:  Rustic White Cardstock (Papertrey Ink), background paper, Soiree (Pink Paislee), polkadot paper, Mitten Wheather (Cosmo Cricket)

Stamps:  Button Boutique, Friendship Jar (sentiment), (Papertrey Ink)

Inks:  Sorbet (CTMH), Enchanted Evening (Papertrey Ink)

Dies:  Button card (Papertrey Ink)

Embellishments:  Fabric, Buttons and trim from stash


I also wanted to share a new storage unit that I purchased for my studio.  I am so happy to be able to better organize my stuff.

This is meant to be used to store CD's and DVD's, but since some of my stamp sets are in CD cases, it works awesome.

I can store all my Spellbinders dies since I transfer them to CD cases when I purchase them.

All of my Papertrey Ink dies, which I just leave in the little zip-lock bags they come in, plus the small stamp sets.

My Papertrey Ink stamps, which come with a CD case for storage.  (I did read however that PTI is going to start using DVD size storage for their stamps.)

Stampin' Up! stamps that come with a DVD case for storage fit in here great as well.

Though I have to put them on their side, all of my Unity Stamps will fit too.

Sadly, most all of my stamp sets are CTMH and they just won't fit, so I either will have to transfer them all to CD cases or just store them how I am currently doing it.

I can also put a lot of little odds and ends into these drawers.  I love being able to store so much stuff, and I still have plenty of empty drawers I can use in the future.

 Random paper items such as tags and envelopes.

 Lots of brads and lots of bling.

The one downside to getting my storage unit is that I had to move my vintage Costco cart out of my studio to make room.  I really loved using it to store my Big Shot and large dies, but I was able to find another use for it.

Following Directions

Since I teach a Scrapbooking class every week, it is usually me who is giving directions, but this week is a bit different, I am following directions instead.

I found an incredible members website called Inking Everything with Becky.  It was co-founded by Becky Roberts and Julie Brewer and features many tutorials.  I found it extremely useful to help me come up with new cardmaking ideas.  Becky herself had a tutorial for the below projects and I could not resist because it is tea related.  I so love the color combination as well.

The Paper Bakery is another website that I found back in the fall of last year and have truly enjoyed.  Sarah Hill makes up a gorgeous kit each month with step by step instructions included, it is amazing the ideas that she comes up with.  I have had the Family album kit partially completed and was finally able to find some time this week to finish it and I LOVE how it came out.  Now I will just need to add photos.

I {heart} Cards

Today I am sharing a few card projects I made.

The first card I am sharing is a CASE from Melissa Phillips.  Melissa is probably one of my most favorite designers and I truly adore her style.  Melissa's blog is called LilyBean's Paperie and I encourage you to visit her to see for yourself her amazing talent.

For my version of Melissa's card, I started with the green background which is from Echo Park "Victorian Garden" collection.  The top floral paper is from Crate Paper "Emma's Dress Shop", and the bottom pink script paper is from Melissa Francis "5th Avenue" collection.  The seed packet and seed packet frame are Papertrey Ink dies and the garden tools are from the Garden Variety die, also from Papertrey Ink.  I used the coordinating stamps, which were designed by Papertrey Ink using concepts from Melissa Phillips.  The seed packet was cut from Stampin' Up! "First Edition" Specialty paper and the seed packet frame was cut from The Girls Paperie "Paper Girl" paper.  I stamped the frame using Dark Chocolate and Ripe Avocado ink from Papertrey Ink.  I cut the garden tools from October Afternoon paper which had wood ruler images on it.  (I can't remember the collection name.)  I made the tag by tracing a manilla hang tag and then cutting it out and punching the hole.  I used Colonial White wrinkle ribbon from my etsy shop for the tag.  I tied a paper rose to the garden tools and hot glued it onto the card.

For these Valentine's cards I used Basic Grey "Kissing Booth" paper, die cuts and brads.  I also used Mat Stack 3 Collection die and stamp set from Papertrey Ink.

Autumn Crafts

Autumn is my favorite season, and this year has been very busy.  My DH had knee surgery so I have been taking care of him, but oddly enough, it has afforded me a lot of extra time.  I have been taking full advantage and have accomplished several projects that I am happy to share.

First, a set of "Thank You" cards I made using Crate Paper's Farmhouse Collection paper and stickers.

Next is a masculine card I made using the Graphic 45 "A Proper Gentlemen" paper collection.  I cased this card from the May/June 2011 issue of Paper Crafts magazine.

 

For my halloween layout, I used paper from two different paper collections;  Teresa Collins "Haunted Hallows" paper, stickers and brads and "The Apothecary Emporium" paper and stickers from Echo Park.  I love all the papers in both collections since I am a traditional halloween color person, plus, I thought all the papers blended well together.

Another layout I created from the new Stampin' Up! paper called Spice Cake.  I love this paper collection and it also has matching fabric!  I made a pretty flower embellishment by cutting a 1 1/2" strip of the fabric and edging it with pinking shears.  I ran a quick basting stitch along one edge, pulled it tight to make the flower.  I also made a rosette from Melissa Frances crochet trim and topped it off with a large brad I made with coordinating paper.  The tiny little clothes pins are also from Stampin' Up! and the banners were cut using Papertrey Inks banner builder series dies.

Lastly I made some little treat boxes to send some goodies in.  I made a little pull tab from black grosgrain ribbon to pull it open.  I thought this might be easier for little hands.

 

Thinking of You

I have another card to share today with a mini tutorial.  I wanted something bright and primary, so I chose to use Cosmo Cricket Odds And Ends paper collection.  I picked out a few patterns that I liked and that followed with the 3 basic colors I wanted to use.

I started by making a rough layout of my card.  I used a Papertrey Ink die to cut out the scalloped edge and the green frame was cut from the Cosmo Cricket paper.

 

Next, I rummaged through my embellies to find a few things that I would like to add.  I originally had planned on using wrinkle ribbon, but I couldn't find a color that worked well with the color scheme I wanted, so I decided to make my own.

I used an 18" long piece of crochet trim from Melissa Frances and using embroidery floss, I threaded it through one edge of the trim.

Once threaded, I held both ends of the embroidery floss while scrunching up the trim towards the center.

 

Once I had the shape I wanted, I tied the embroidery floss in a tight knot and cut the long ends.

I used a pretty red mulberry flower as the center of my crochet rosette and found some vintage green lace that I thought would look nice.  I opted to leave out the blue ticking stripe pattern paper from my final design because I wanted to showcase the floral patterned paper a bit more.  For the sentiment, I used Printer's Type letters from Hero Arts and cut out each word, then attached them with foam tape.
