What's On My Workdesk, er, deck? Wednesday?

This week on my workdesk, well, my deck for the sunlight to take the photo, is a Halloween banner I totally CASE'd.

This banner was created by a very talented lady, Hilary Kanwischer, and was featured in the October 2010 issue of Scrapbooks, etc. Please take a moment and hop over to Hilary's blog here and check out her amazing work!  Check out her original banner here.  I used most of the same supplies that Hilary did though I did have to substitute a few things with what I had on hand.  I really like how mine turned out, but of course it isn't as cute as Hilary's.  Thanks for stopping by and just for the record, this project WAS on my workdesk before I took it outside to be photographed.

ABC Challenge at H2H

Over at H2H the challenge this week is an ABC challenge.  Our project has to include the following ABC's:

     A= Alphabet. Use alphabet stamps, stickers, etc.... in some way on your project
     B= Boy. Your project must be for a boy.
     C= Chocolate. You must include the color Chocolate (or other dark brown) somewhere on your artwork.

I kind of feel like I cheated because my project is actually the layout project featured in the Passages Workshop On The Go.  After I finished it for my scrapbook class that I teach, I realized it fit the criteria for this weeks challenge.  The first layout is of my son's 8th grade graduation.  Enjoy!

Heart 2 Heart Challenge

This week at Heart 2 Heart Challenge we have a color challenge.  Beautiful Autumn colors of New England Ivy, Autumn Terracotta and Honey.  This is what I came up with.  My inspiration was remembering when I was a little girl and my Grandma and I would collect leaves and then place them between waxed paper with crayon bits and then take the iron to it.  Enjoy!

Supplies:

 
• Paper:  New England Ivy, Autumn Terracotta and Colonial White Cardstock
• Stamps:  Spring Leaves, Fall Leaves and a pumpkin stamp from my stash
• Inks:  New England Ivy, Autumn Terracotta, Honey, Desert Sand and Versamark
• Embellishments:  Crochet Trim from stash, Prisma Glitter
• Other: Copic Markers Y15 and Y17,  Martha Stewart glitter glue (I like this because when you apply it to our inks they will bleed just a bit so it makes the color more intense once the glitter is applied.
• Technique:  Emboss resist using clear embossing powder then I applied ink with a stiple brush in small circles then blended with a sponge.

These are the rest of the cards I completed this past week.  A special order from my sister-in-law.  Hope she likes them!

What’s on your Workdesk? Wednesday

 Ah, it is a gloomy day here, which admittedly I like just as well as a sunny day so long as it isn't too cold.  And let's take a peek at what is on my workdesk...

I promised myself that I would not move my work over to the class table, but because I had been working with glitter I did not want to get it all over my layout I am making for my class, and now I have been cursed.  This layout has been my bane!  I had made many mistakes and finally last evening I walked away from pure frustration.  This afternoon I will continue putting it together as it will need to be completed by this evening so I can show my class how to make it.  Julius is giving me some moral support.

I have been busy this past week making custom cards for my sister-in-law.  They are now officially complete!

On a happy note, over the Holiday my DH and I went shopping in Topeka and I found some lovely papers that I could not resist. (Anyone who knows me understands that anything faerie related is my weakness.)  And on the subject of faeries, my DH made little blocks for my faerie collection to sit on so that I could display them (one is in the left side of the above photo), and now I am not sure how to finish off the little stands.  Should I decoupage them, paint them?  Any and all suggestions are certainly welcome.   And lastly, I recently acquired a back-issue of Magnolia Ink magazine and was inspired by the use of beautiful flowers on all of the artwork, so I picked up a few in hopes that I will find a project to use them on.

What’s on your Workdesk? Wednesday

I had several comments on the oval frame I have on my wall.  This is one of my favorite things and it may have been a mirror at some time.  I purchased it in it’s current condition at an auction for next to nothing and several people asked me if I was going to refinish it.  I said no way, I loved it just the way it was.  I use old dishes and milk glass to hold my tools, pens, markers and the like.  I have 8 nieces and nephews, all who are under 6 years old, so I used this little desk to create a craft area for them when they come see me, which is often since my brother and sister live in the same town as I do.  Enjoy everyone!
P.S.  That is my BFF under the desk.  He always hangs out with me when I am working.  He is a Basset Hound and his name is Flash, because you know how fast basset hounds are ;) (not really).
